How to Choose Drip Tape Wall Thickness? 0.2 or 0.4
The question we hear most when buying drip tape is "how thick should it be?" Wall thickness directly decides price and service life — too thick and you pay more, too thin and it won't last. The key is not "the thicker the better", but matching the application.
1. What Wall Thickness Determines
Wall thickness decides the drip tape's resistance to tearing, aging and abrasion: the thicker the wall, the stronger the resistance to physical damage, the longer the service life, and the higher the unit price. One thing to make clear: wall thickness does not change discharge distance or flow rate — a 5 kg and a 6 kg hose of the same specification differ only in wall thickness, and the spray effect is identical.
2. Choosing Wall Thickness by Application

3. The Economics: Do the Math
To judge whether thin or thick wall is more cost-effective, compare by "average annual cost per mu = unit price ÷ usable seasons" (1 mu ≈ 667 m²): a 0.2mm tape used for 1 season vs a 0.4mm tape used for 3 seasons — if the 0.4mm unit price is less than 3 times the 0.2mm price, the thicker tape actually costs less. Add the labor of replacing drip tape, and thicker tape usually wins in mid-to-long-term scenarios.
4. Two Things to Check When Choosing
- Watch the weight, not the claims: for the same specification, the heavier a 100 m roll, the more material and usually the thicker the wall;
- Wall thickness ≠ pressure rating: drip working pressure is generally 0.05-0.15 MPa — normal use does not rely on wall thickness to hold pressure; wall thickness mainly resists pulling force and aging.
